Journey to the Heart of Scotland’s Whisky Country

Welcome to Highland Private Journey. If you are a lover of single malt Scotch, there is one destination that stands above the rest: Speyside. Nestled around the fertile valley of the River Spey, this spectacular region is the undisputed whisky capital of the world, home to more than 50 working distilleries.

Our Private Speyside Whisky Tour invites you to experience the ultimate Malt Whisky Trail. Forget the stress of navigating rural roads or restricting yourself to accommodate Scotland’s strict drink-driving laws. Relax in our premium luxury vehicle, savor the stunning views of the Cairngorms National Park, and let your expert private driver guide you through a guilt-free day of world-class drams.

Your Journey Through the Casks: The Itinerary

Please note: Speyside offers an incredible variety of distilleries. Because this is a private tour, the itinerary below is just a sample! We will work with you to craft a route featuring your personal favorites.

The Drive: Through the Cairngorms to Speyside

Departing from Inverness, our journey takes us south through the majestic scenery of the Cairngorms National Park and into the lush, rolling hills of the Spey Valley. Your guide will share the fascinating history of the region, explaining how illicit distillers once hid in these very glens before Speyside became a global whisky powerhouse.

The Macallan Estate: Modern Luxury & Master Craftsmanship

Our first suggested stop is The Macallan. Set on a beautiful 485-acre estate, the distillery features a jaw-dropping, state-of-the-art subterranean facility that blends seamlessly into the Scottish landscape. Whether you book an in-depth tour, explore their boutique, or simply enjoy a premium tasting flight at the spectacular Macallan Bar, a visit here is an absolute must for whisky connoisseurs.

The Speyside Cooperage: The Art of the Cask

Did you know that up to 80% of a whisky’s flavor comes from the wood? A short drive brings us to the Speyside Cooperage, the only working cooperage in the UK where you can experience the traditional art of barrel-making. From the viewing gallery, watch highly skilled coopers move at lightning speed as they build, repair, and char the oak casks using methods passed down through generations.

Glenfiddich & Dufftown: The Whisky Capital

We conclude our day in Dufftown, a village famous for the saying: “Rome was built on seven hills, but Dufftown was built on seven stills.” Here, you can visit the world-famous Glenfiddich Distillery, one of the few single malt distilleries to remain entirely family-owned. Enjoy a tasting of their signature sweet, fruity whiskies before we begin the relaxing, chauffeured drive back to Inverness.

Highlights

  • The Macallan Estate: Experience the architectural marvel and unmatched luxury of one of the world's most prestigious whisky brands.
  • Glenfiddich Distillery: Visit the legendary family-owned distillery in the charming whisky town of Dufftown.
  • Speyside Cooperage: Witness the incredible, fast-paced artistry of coopers crafting and repairing the oak casks that give whisky its flavor.
  • Guilt-Free Tasting: Enjoy every drop of your tasting flights safely with your own dedicated driver.
  • Bespoke Itinerary: With dozens of distilleries to choose from—including Aberlour, The Balvenie, and Cardhu—we tailor the route to your specific palate.

Tour's Location

Do we need to book the distillery tours in advance?

Yes, this is absolutely essential. Speyside is incredibly popular, and tours at top-tier distilleries like The Macallan, The Balvenie, and Glenfiddich often sell out months in advance. Once you book your private transport with us, we strongly advise securing your distillery tickets immediately.

Can we choose which distilleries we visit?

Yes! This is the beauty of a private tour. If you are a fan of AberlourCardhuCragganmore, or Glenfarclas, just let us know. We will help you plan a logical geographic route so you can fit your favorite brands into one perfect day.

Are the tasting fees included in your tour price?

No, tasting and tour fees are not included. Because distilleries offer many different experiences—from an £18 introductory tour to a £100+ premium rare cask tasting—we leave this separate so you have complete control over your budget and experience.

How far is Speyside from Inverness?

The drive from Inverness to the heart of Speyside (like the town of Aberlour or Dufftown) takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1.5 hours each way. It is a beautiful, relaxing drive, and you’ll have plenty of time for 2 to 3 distillery stops, plus lunch, during the day.

Can we visit the Speyside Cooperage on this tour?

Yes, and we highly recommend it! The Speyside Cooperage offers a fantastic and unique perspective on the whisky-making process that you won't get at the distilleries. Let us know if you'd like to include it, and we can factor it into your itinerary.

Another exciting adventure with Exodus

Another exciting adventure with this tour company. Our trip was at the end of April/beginning of May and it was very hot !!!! I'm told June/July is even hotter. Phew !!!!Despite this I loved every minute of it.It was a very busy trip but extremely well organised. I very much liked the additional drink stops as it was so very hot. Home made chilled lime was just the thing. I also very much liked Lam pre-booking the meals and us all going together. He found some wonderful places and we had delicious fresh food. There just isn't time to find somewhere yourself. This really worked well.We were lucky to be with a super group of people. Everyone happy and smiling and enjoying every moment..................well................except a few of the group who did get a bit sore. Please do get yourself some chamois butter and padded pants. It works a treat. It worked well having all the cycling in the beginning. The train was much better than I had expected and I slept like a log !!! Whale Island and Halong Bay were real treats and I would have loved more time there. But, overall, the trip was perfect for timing as it kept us within the 15 day Visa limit and we saw and did so much.Despite being informed in writing by the tour operator that our big holdalls/suitcase stays with us all the time......this was not the case. You do need to have a rucksack or flat pack bag big enough for the one and two night stays (Whale Island and Halong Bay). In fact......it works very well to just take small luggage. Much easier to do once you get your head around it.I found the cycling easy compared with other trips I've done but I do feel it is right to be called a Level 3. Everyone cycles slightly differently and there is always a bit of a mix of abilities........which makes for a good group cycle I think.

Excellent, probably the best yet.

This was an amazing trip. Totally fell in love with Vietnam, We did so much in such in two weeks. The cycling, somehow. only felt like a small part of the experience as there were so many other things that we did. Each day was full on, exceptionally well organised, great food, etc Been on a few cycle trips, and I think this was the best one so far.
