Journey South to Scotland’s Most Iconic Landscapes & Legends

Welcome to Highland Private Journey. When your cruise ship docks in the deep waters of the Cromarty Firth, the absolute best of the Scottish Highlands awaits just a short drive to the south. Leave the crowded, 50-seater cruise buses behind and step into the luxury of your own private vehicle.

Our Exclusive South Tour is specially designed for cruise passengers who want to experience the legendary sites that make Scotland famous worldwide. From the mysterious, dark waters of Loch Ness to the haunting history of Culloden Battlefield and the Outlander magic of Clava Cairns, your private driver-guide will bring the Highlands to life. Best of all? You explore at your own pace, with a cast-iron guarantee that you will be back to your ship with time to spare.

Your Highland Shore Excursion: The Itinerary

Because this is a private tour, the itinerary below is entirely customizable! We will help you prioritize the sites you want to see most.

The Scenic Drive: Over the Firths to Inverness

Your private guide will meet you right at the port gates in Invergordon. Within minutes, you’ll be traveling south through the lush scenery of the Black Isle, crossing the spectacular Kessock Bridge into Inverness. Along the way, your guide will share local lore, Highland history, and perhaps even a few secrets about the Loch Ness Monster!

Loch Ness & Urquhart Castle

Our journey continues down the Great Glen to the shores of the world’s most famous stretch of water: Loch Ness. Holding more fresh water than all the lakes in England and Wales combined, its deep, dark waters are breathtaking. We will stop at the best vantage points to view the magnificent ruins of Urquhart Castle, once one of Scotland’s grandest fortresses, perched dramatically on the loch’s edge.

Culloden Moor & Clava Cairns

If your passion lies in history and Outlander, we will route our tour east of Inverness to Culloden Battlefield. Take a poignant walk along the front lines of the 1746 Jacobite Rising and pay your respects at the Clan grave markers.

Just a few minutes down a leafy country road lies Clava Cairns. This incredibly preserved, 4,000-year-old cemetery features ancient ring cairns and towering standing stones. It is a deeply mystical site and a must-visit for any fan of Diana Gabaldon’s beloved series.

Tour's Location

Can we see Loch Ness, Urquhart Castle, AND Culloden in 4 hours?

To give you an honest and comfortable experience: doing all of these sites in just 4 hours from Invergordon is very rushed. A 4-hour tour is perfect for choosing one primary destination (e.g., just Loch Ness, or just Culloden/Clava Cairns). If you wish to comfortably do the "Ultimate South Tour" and see both Loch Ness and the Jacobite sites, we highly recommend using our £60/hour extension to make it a 5 or 6-hour day!

Will you get us back to the cruise ship on time?

Absolutely. Getting you back to the ship safely and on time is our number one priority. We monitor your ship’s departure time meticulously, and because we are local experts, we know exactly how to navigate the Highland roads to ensure a stress-free return to port.

How does the £60 per hour extension work?

It’s simple! Our base tour covers 4 hours. When you book, you can request to extend your time by 1 or 2 hours. This is charged at a flat rate of just £60 per extra hour. It is the most cost-effective way to transform a quick port stop into a fully immersive, relaxed Highland adventure.

Do we need to book our attraction tickets in advance?

Yes. On days when cruise ships are in port, tickets for the Culloden Visitor Centre and Urquhart Castle can sell out quickly. Once we agree on your custom itinerary, we strongly advise booking your entrance tickets online to avoid disappointment. (Note: Exploring the stones at Clava Cairns is completely free and requires no tickets!)

How do we find you at Invergordon port?

Navigating Invergordon port is incredibly easy. When you disembark, simply walk to the main port gates. Your private driver will be standing right there holding a welcome board with your name on it. Your luxury vehicle will be parked just steps away.
