Experience the wild, cinematic beauty of Scotland’s most famous island with our exclusive Private Isle of Skye & West Coast Tour. Known for its towering jagged mountains, sparkling fairy pools, and sweeping coastlines, the Isle of Skye is a destination that captures the soul.
At Highland Private Journey, we take the stress out of navigating the remote and winding single-track roads of the west. In the comfort of a luxury private vehicle, you can simply sit back and immerse yourself in the sheer scale of the dramatic Highland scenery. Whether you want to hunt for fairy folklore, photograph ancient castles, or stare up at towering volcanic rock formations, this epic, bespoke adventure is crafted entirely around you.
Eilean Donan Castle: Visit Scotland’s most romantic and photographed castle, perfectly situated where three sea lochs meet.
The Majestic West Coast: Drive through the breathtaking, towering peaks of Glen Shiel and the Five Sisters of Kintail.
The Trotternish Peninsula: Marvel at otherworldly geological wonders like the Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock, and the sprawling Quiraing.
Portree Harbor: Stop for a fresh seafood lunch and photograph the iconic pastel-colored houses of Skye’s capital village.
The Cuillin Mountains: Take in awe-inspiring views of Britain’s most rugged and dramatic mountain range.
Stress-Free Luxury: Enjoy a seamless, premium journey with an expert local guide who knows the island’s hidden gems and best photo spots.

The journey to Skye is just as spectacular as the island itself. Because this is a private tour, your itinerary is completely flexible, but an unforgettable day typically features:
The Journey West: Leaving the east behind, we travel through some of the most dramatic mainland scenery in Scotland. We will pass through deep glens, dense forests, and the towering mountain ridges of Kintail before arriving at the shores of the west coast.
Eilean Donan Castle: Before crossing the Skye Bridge, we make a mandatory stop at Eilean Donan Castle. Steeped in Jacobite history and surrounded by majestic scenery, it is a true Scottish icon.
Crossing the Sea to Skye: Once on the “Misty Isle,” the landscape changes dramatically. We’ll tailor our route based on your interests. We can head north to the Trotternish Peninsula to explore the towering basalt columns of the Old Man of Storr and the cascading waterfall of Mealt Falls (Kilt Rock) tumbling directly into the ocean.
Fairy Magic & Mountain Views: Alternatively, we can head south toward the imposing Black Cuillin mountains, or visit the legendary Fairy Pools—a series of crystal-clear, icy plunge pools and waterfalls at the foot of the mountains. (Please note: The Fairy Pools require a moderate hike).
Duration: Epic Full-Day Tour (approx. 10–12 hours) Multi-day options are highly recommended!
Departure Point: Perfectly suited for departures from Inverness.
Group Size: Exclusive to your private party.
Pace: Tailored to you. We can make it a relaxed scenic drive or an action-packed day of short walks and viewpoints.
Leave the crowded buses behind and explore Scotland’s most dramatic landscapes in ultimate comfort.

Yes, visiting the Isle of Skye from Inverness is an epic, full-day adventure, typically lasting between 10 and 12 hours. It takes roughly 2.5 hours of breathtaking scenic driving just to reach the Skye Bridge! Because it is a long day, traveling in our luxury private vehicle makes all the difference, allowing you to relax comfortably while we handle the driving.
Because the island is vast and our day trip is action-packed, we usually prioritize scenic viewpoints rather than long, strenuous hikes so you can see as much of the island as possible. We can easily accommodate short walks to the lower viewpoints of the Storr or the start of the Fairy Pools. If you wish to do a full hike (which takes 2-3 hours), we can absolutely customize your itinerary, though it will mean skipping other sights on the island.
Absolutely. While our 1-day tour is a fantastic "highlights reel," the best way to truly experience the Isle of Skye without rushing is over 2 or 3 days. Contact us directly, and we will build a bespoke multi-day Highland Private Journey for you, including recommendations for overnight accommodations on the island.
We usually schedule a lunch stop in Portree, the charming capital of Skye. Portree offers a variety of fantastic options, from cozy local pubs serving traditional Scottish fare to award-winning fresh seafood restaurants.
To give you the utmost flexibility, entrance fees to castles and attractions are not included in the tour price. Many guests are perfectly happy photographing the stunning exterior of Eilean Donan Castle from the shoreline. However, if you wish to go inside and explore the restored rooms, we will ensure plenty of time is allocated for your visit!
A Brilliant Trip
